Summer Side Hustles That Don’t Feel Like a Hustle
By Rebecca Moretti

Summer is an ideal time to earn extra cash, and people are earning more than ever from side hustles — an average of over $1,240 a month, according to a recent survey. But how do you take on another job without ruining your summer vibe? Here’s a list of side hustles that don’t necessarily feel like a hustle.

Powell’s Swan Song
While the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged this week, there were four voting members who disagreed with its statement, marking the most dissenters on a Fed decision since 1992.

The meeting was also very likely the last time we will see Chair Jerome Powell behind the podium. The Senate Banking Committee approved Kevin Warsh as his replacement the same day as Powell’s press conference, and the full Senate will likely vote to confirm him in the next week or so.

Securing Your Summer
May is a big transition month. Many of us are winding down the school year, getting ready for summer, and looking forward to some vacation. Before you officially slip into summer mode, take a moment to think ahead. Here are three simple suggestions for maximizing the month.

Protect your travel plans — especially since peace of mind is such a hot commodity these days.
  • As the recent surge in jet fuel prices raises airfare, consider paying the extra to get refundable or flexible flights on your summer vacation. Then you’re hedging against further price hikes but also leaving your options open if fares drop. (Travel apps may have tools that alert you to price drops too.)

  • With some airlines cutting unprofitable flights, it’s worth knowing what travel insurance does and doesn’t cover.

  • Before going abroad, make sure you have a credit card that doesn’t charge a foreign transaction fee. Often 3% of each transaction, these fees can add up.

Informed investment decisions start with informed investors. Here's what's making headlines:

๐ŸŒจ️ Big Tech earnings focused on, you guessed it, AI development: While Alphabet (GOOGL) and Meta (META) both announced they’d spend even more on AI infrastructure, the cost was a harder sell for Meta investors, and the stock dropped. Unlike the Google parent, Microsoft (MSFT), or Amazon (AMZN), Meta lacks the cloud infrastructure business that can turn its AI investments into revenue. (CNBC)

๐Ÿ“ฒ PayPal (PYPL) is separating Venmo into its own standalone unit, making it easier to track the payment app's progress — or potentially sell it. CEO Enrique Lores, who led HP before taking over PayPal in March, is betting the new corporate structure will help the company regain ground lost to Apple (AAPL) and Google (GOOGL). (CNBC)

๐Ÿช™ Institutional investors have been driving the latest crypto rally. Bitcoin (BTC) pulled in $933 million in fresh institutional capital last week, powering the fourth straight week of net inflows for crypto funds. Assets under management reached $155 billion, the highest since Feb. 1, but still well below October’s $263 billion peak. (CoinDesk)
