The Fed Statement: Relationship Problems
I often reference relationship problems when talking about markets because I believe it's important to note when a relationship between two variables isn't working as it usually does. In the case of this week's Fed meeting, there are relationship problems between the Fed's economic and rate projections.

The economic projections didn't change for 2025 but reflect a more optimistic stance for 2026: GDP growth expectations moved up, unemployment expectations moved down, and inflation moved up a bit (perhaps due to stronger growth.)

The problem is, the Fed's rate projection moved down in both 2025 and 2026, meaning the committee sees more rate cuts coming than it did in June.

Why cut more if the economy is expected to strengthen and inflation is expected to rise? Something isn't adding up.

🇨🇳  China has banned its biggest tech firms from buying certain Nvidia (NVDA) AI chips, The Financial Times reported, citing people familiar with the matter. It's a major blow to Nvidia's aspirations to sell more in the world's second-largest economy. (Barron's via MSN)

🔔  Ticketmaster rival StubHub went public this week, adding to a growing list of high-profile IPOs. Others include design software firm Figma (FIG) and buy now, pay later platform Klarna (KLAR). (Investopedia)
